Former KKK Grand Poopah David Duke knows a racist when he sees one in the mirror. That might be why he feels qualified to judge Donald Trump’s bigotry bona fides. In an interview with USA Today today, the Louisiana Senate candidate had faint praise for Trump, but stopped short of paying him the ultimate compliment.
“Donald Trump is white, so he’s got that going for him. And he has the hate thing pretty much dialed in, which I admire. I just wish he’d stop going after Mexicans and Muslims and women and babies and physically challenged, uh, handicapped, uh crippled people and focus more on the blacks. Traditionally, that’s where racism does the most good. Hating black people is classic racism in the same way that Aerosmith is classic rock. Any racist worth his hood knows you have to honor the classics.”
Duke, who is polling at 14 percent among black voters – which is 13.8 percent better than Donald Trump – offered Trump advice on how to improve his standing in the African American community.
“It’s all about consistency. I’ve always hated black people. With David Duke, what you see is what you get and people seem to respect that. Trump, on the other hand, can’t stay on message. One day it’s attacking the parents of a war hero, the next it’s saying a woman who’s sexual harassed in the workplace should quit her job. Okay, I agree with all that but I’m not going to say it out loud. I’m a racist, not an knucklehead.”
